The opening scene is of the McKenzie River in central Oregon, which has scenery that morphs into a painterly vision of fall colors with rapidly evolving low clouds. The annual spawning dance of Kokanee salmon was so exciting to witness on the Wallowa River in northeastern Oregon in the fall. It is so humbling to be in the presence of such pageantry. The “leaping” insects that hatched in front of me reminded me of one of the many sequences that has to happen if the cycle of life is to continue for many creatures in the wild. In the end, leaves must fall and salmon have to heed the call to return to their place of birth. Such singularity of purpose is inspiring.
